In March 1994—when most of the world was still discovering dial-up—I launched one of the internet’s first music websites. Though my career revolved around the industry, I gave it a personal name: ASHA, my youngest daughter, became the URL that started it all.
This was where Timmy Thomas, M.R. William T, Jeff Majors, Dick Gregory, and other R&B, jazz, and blues pioneers made their digital debuts. Back when Yahoo’s founders were coding in dorm rooms, The MUSIC SPECIALIST ranked #7 in their music directory—a badge of honor in the Wild West of the early web. By 1995, we were named among the ”Top 5% of all websites" by Point Survey, cementing our place in internet history.
Thirty years later, The MUSIC SPECIALIST is still evolving. The 2025 relaunch isn’t just a revival—it’s a living archive and a bridge between generations**. AI-powered discovery tools now connect classic soul with today’s underground beats, while rare interviews and vinyl rips (yes, we still do those) sit alongside 8K live sessions.
Why? Because music isn’t just data—it’s DNA. The same way Sam Cooke’s voice carried the Civil Rights Movement, or a D’Angelo riff sparked a neo-soul renaissance, we’re here to remind the algorithm age that **context matters.
Visit the reimagined MUSIC SPECIALIST—where legacy meets the next wave.
(P.S. Tell Alexa to play “the real stuff.” She’ll know where to send you.)
